City of Okmulgee Announces New Film Incentive Program

The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) congratulates the City of Okmulgee on the establishment of their film incentive program. This new incentive reinforces Okmulgee as a long-standing film friendly community and is designed to encourage economic investment while promoting the city as a premier filming destination.

Having welcomed productions like “Reservation Dogs” and “Sarah’s Oil,” Okmulgee is experienced in working with productions of various crew sizes and budgets. The city offers a wide array of filming locations with close proximity to Tulsa and surrounding areas, providing infrastructure and additional resources.

“As a city representative and someone who has worked directly with productions that have filmed in Okmulgee, I’ve seen firsthand the economic and cultural impact the film industry can bring to a community like ours,” said Okmulgee City Council Member John Neal. “This incentive is the result of thoughtful collaboration between city leadership, Main Street and local stakeholders who believe in Okmulgee’s potential. We’ve built a program that not only supports filmmakers financially, but also reflects the welcoming, hands-on partnership they can expect when they choose to film here. Okmulgee is ready to work, ready to host and ready to help tell great stories.”

The program offers a 10% sales tax rebate to qualifying productions with a minimum spend of $10,000 in Okmulgee. Applicants are eligible for an additional 5% uplift if the following requirements are met:

  • Hiring over 50% of crew from the Okmulgee area
  • Featuring Okmulgee landmarks or historic sites prominently
  • Conducting at least 50% of filming days within Okmulgee

Additional location support and reduced permit fees are also available to productions working with the program. Currently, there are no application deadlines. Interested productions are encouraged to reach out directly to the Okmulgee Film Office for more information and to apply.

“Northeast Oklahoma has a growing film hub, and it’s exciting to see that continue through Okmulgee’s new incentive,” said Jeanette Stanton, Director of OF+MO. “This adds to the existing state, local and tribal film incentive programs, making Oklahoma a premier destination for film and television production.”
