Oklahoma City & Tulsa Climb Charts on MovieMaker Magazine’s Annual Best Places to Live and Work as a Filmmaker

Oklahoma’s thriving film and television industry continues to be recognized among the top destinations for production in North America with MovieMaker Magazine ranking both Oklahoma City and Tulsa among its Best Places to Live and Work as a Filmmaker in 2025 (Big Cities).

Oklahoma City ranked #13 and Tulsa ranked #15 on the list in the publication’s Winter 2025 issue, the latter climbing four spots from its former #19 ranking last year. Dedicated to the art and craft of making movies, MovieMaker compiles this list based on surveys, production spending, film incentives, additional research and personal visits where possible.

“It’s a huge honor for Oklahoma City to be ranked #13 of North America’s top 25 cities for filmmakers in 2025! Thanks to competitive incentive programs on both the state and city level, Oklahoma City is now home to virtual and live action studio facilities, the only Dolby Atmos mixing room in this part of the country and a crew base skilled in everything from digital visual effects and animation to traditional production and post-production,” said Jill Simpson, Executive Director for Oklahoma City Film & Creative Industries Office. “With Tulsa also included on the list due to its recent boom, it is clear that Oklahoma is currently riding a wave of momentum within this highly competitive global industry.”

Meg Gould, Executive Director of the Tulsa Office of Film, Music, Arts and Culture, also commented, “This is a validation of the hard work of everyone involved in Tulsa’s film production industry. Ranking ahead of cities like Charlotte, Fort Worth and Boston shows that Tulsa is continuing to make a name for itself. Thanks to incredible production locations, a thriving community of creatives and a rapidly expanding local workforce, Tulsa is a fantastic filming location for projects large and small. Congratulations to Oklahoma City as well for debuting at number 13 on the list, further solidifying Oklahoma as a premiere film location not just in the country but around the world.”
