Tonkawa Film Festival Returns for 2026

The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) is proud to support the seventh annual Tonkawa Film Festival on April 24 & 25. Over the course of this two-day festival, more than 40 short films spanning a wide array of genres will be screened in Wilkin Hall at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa.

Coining themselves “The Biggest Small Town Film Festival in Oklahoma” and ranked as one of the “Top 100 Best Reviewed Festivals” by FilmFreeway, the Tonkawa Film Festival offers a great experience for both filmmakers and attendees in one of the state’s most charming rural communities while showcasing productions from across the globe. This year’s festival will feature short films from nine other countries including Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Russia, Switzerland, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. An annual highlight of the festival, the filmmaker parade also returns recognizing and celebrating this year’s filmmakers with a community-wide celebration.

“The Tonkawa Film Festival is a unique opportunity for our community to experience the art of filmmaking from around the world without leaving home,” said James Oxford, Festival Director. “We are thrilled to add our inaugural Short Screenplay Competition to this year’s lineup, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to Wilkin Hall for two days of extraordinary cinema, our signature parade and shared storytelling.”

This year’s addition of the short film screenplay contest further recognizes the growing talent in the state and around the world while allowing opportunities for unproduced projects to shine. It is also one of the few festivals in the state that offer festival submissions for screenwriters. Additionally, the festival is proud to once again present the Best of Fest winner with a Blackmagic 6K Camera, valued at over $3,000, generously donated by Blackmagic Design. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding achievement in filmmaking and reflects the festival’s commitment to supporting the next generation of cinematic talent.

“The organizers of the Tonkawa Film Festival have done a wonderful job promoting local films among their programming while putting on this festival within the community for the past seven years,” said OF+MO Director Jeanette Stanton. “It is refreshing to see local towns supporting filmmakers in this way and we applaud the mutual collaborations between the local college, city and others who play a role in bringing this annual event to life within this region.”
