Featured Music Career for May 2026: Singer-Songwriter & Creative Director

Ellesse is a 20-something R&B, alternative and indie-pop singer-songwriter known for her silky, sweet vocals and vulnerably authentic lyricism. She is known for her debut EP, Bipolar Baby, that focuses on the topic of mental health, as well as her hit single “Boundaries” that is a classic example of a true love story in which all are sure to fall in love with. Although she is heavily influenced by R&B, she is experimental, genre-defying and does not limit or put herself in a box. She enjoys the art of creating whatever comes naturally in that moment, and loves exploring all aspects and genres of music, hoping to connect with each and every listener in a positive and authentic way.

How did you get started?

Throughout my middle and high school years I grew up playing in band. I started off playing the clarinet as many do but quickly advanced to playing the oboe, vibraphone and other percussion instruments. I also started singing at a very young age because it just came naturally to me. I went to Rose State College and got an associate’s degree in Musical Theatre Performance. I then got my bachelor’s degree in Theatre Performance at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO), along with studying at the Academy of Contemporary Music at UCO. With all of this education and experience, along with professional vocal lessons, my vocals matured and I was able to truly find my own unique sound.

Did you always want a career in the music industry?

I did! From a very young age I’ve felt a deep pull toward the music industry. I also come from a very musically gifted family that inspired and supported my interests in music early on. Whether I was singing karaoke at home with my brother, racking up the nerve to perform at open mic shows with my friends or just writing poetry and lyrics alone in my car, I knew that the music scene was and would always be the place for me. Being in the music industry is where I’ve felt the most passionate, welcomed, respected and it has given me the strongest sense of belonging.

What are your most recent successes / placements / accomplishments / projects and or career highlights?

After taking a much-needed hiatus, I recently found my way back into the music scene with a renewed sense of passion and purpose. I created my very first logo for myself as an artist and brand, as well as released new merch, including t-shirts, bucket hats and stickers. This was shortly followed by the opportunity of a lifetime— performing at the Oklahoma State Capitol for Oklahoma Film and Music Day. The experience, although a little intimidating at first, reminded me why I fell in love with music in the first place: the energy I get while being on stage, the joy of live performance and the powerful connection that happens when a song meets a new audience. One amazing opportunity unfolded simply because I had said “yes” to a previous one—that I was originally going to say “no” to due to imposter syndrome—which was performing at and opening for Factory Obscura’s Future of Sound Fest and Release of Mixtape Vol. 7. All thanks to Lindsey Cox who continues to push and believe in me, I had the incredible opportunity of writing a song inspired by the Love Tunnel inside of the interactive art museum that is Factory Obscura and then performing that song along with other originals live at the festival and artist market. I’m so proud of myself for accepting these opportunities, even while afraid, because it’s a powerful reminder that every step forward can create a positive ripple effect that creates new possibilities, brings new blessings and carries me to exactly where I’m meant to be.

What is your favorite Oklahoma music venue, music store, or recording studio?

My favorite Oklahoma venue would be Beer City Music Hall, but I’ll be honest, I’m extremely biased. I had another opportunity of a lifetime opening for the Chicago-born rapper and singer-songwriter CupcakKe. This was one of the greatest crowds I’ve ever performed for, one of the smoothest sound systems I’ve ever heard (and felt), and it was one of my best performances ever. I was so honored to be asked to perform there to begin with, but the love and energy I felt from that space and the people on it was unmatched. As for recording studios, I haven’t actually been to many because I normally record with friends. However, my two favorites would have to be Logan and Gage at WrongHouse Studio, as well as Austin Ray at Purple Cadillac Studio.

Networking and connecting with others who share your dream or vision is a vital aspect to the music industry. Can you share which Oklahoma organizations (if any) have contributed to your success and are there Oklahoma organization you would recommend other connect with? To help further their craft or promotion?

There are many Oklahoma organizations that have contributed to my success! I recommend all artists do a little research to find what organizations would best support their specific goals, but these are a few that I would absolutely recommend to all:

– Oklahoma Film + Music Office
Factory Obscura
deadCenter Film Festival
Oklahoma Rock Show
Paseo Arts Festival
Norman Music Festival
Beer City Music Hall
Tower Theatre
OKC Thunder
Hubbly Bubbly Lounge

What are some of the benefits of having a music career in Oklahoma?

One of the biggest benefits about having a music career in Oklahoma is that the community is mostly built off of small businesses who want to work with and build connections with small or up-and-coming artists. Our sole purpose as a community is to continue building an industry that is bigger, better, inclusive and diverse. We strive by collaborating instead of competing, and that’s what makes Oklahoma so special.

Favorite quote and why?

“Success is where preparation and opportunity meet.” – Bobby Unser

“Anything worthy of your passion, should be worthy of your preparation.” – Sue Enquist

What are you working on now or next?

I’ve been holding on to a lot of new, unreleased music that I feel is some of my best work yet. I’m just preparing and planning for the most perfect and thought-out rollouts. I hope to release a music video for my latest single, “PTO,” soon, but my greatest focus is currently on a music video and short film that is in the works to be accompanied by my next single, “Hush (Wait and See).”

Where can people keep up with you and your work?
